A record number of 243 couples will be tying the knot on Valentine’s Day on February 14, click for wedding ROM package and wedding actual day package

SINGAPORE: A record number of 243 couples in Singapore will be tying the knot on Valentine’s Day on February 14, the highest in five years, according to the Registry of Marriages.

This may be because Valentine’s Day will also be the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, or “Yuan Xiao Jie”.

For one couple, tying the knot on February 14 means more than having “double happiness” dates.

The groom-to-be, Mr. Jerald Lim, a banker, said: “For the two of us actually, it will mark seven years, exactly seven years since we first got together. And, on top of that, it is also my lunar birthday.”

The couple’s relatives from overseas will be heading to Singapore for both the wedding and the reunions over the Lunar New Year.

Mr. Lim said the added costs of the February 14 wedding are marginal.

“I think we are very fortunate because we started planning for our wedding very long ago, so we did not have to pay a lot more.

“But there were still items and things we have to pay more for, because it is an auspicious date, and also because it falls within the Lunar New Year festive period. Overall I would say we pay about 10 per cent (more) or thereabout,” he said.

While the costs may not be hefty, the auspicious date poses other challenges.

Mr. Lim said: “We are actually engaging a Buddhist religious leader to be our solemniser, but because it is the 15th day of the Lunar month, she actually has Lunar New Year celebrations at the temple.

“So in order to accommodate our requests, we have to make changes to our schedule so that she will be able to be here to witness our wedding.”

The last time Valentine’s Day coincided with the 15th day of the Lunar New Year was in 1995, where a record 1,082 solemnisations took place.

This year may not see the same numbers, but February 14 will still be a big day for love. Source from: Channel New Asia

After get to know about the special day of 14-Feb-2014, I was regret that I haven’t planed earlier for such a wonderful day for trying the knot. So, how do you feel about the date? Share with your friends about the record.
